Who Are the MCC Niners?
The MCC Niners are a vibrant community of women golf members at Monterey Country Club who gather to enjoy the game, enhance their skills, and interact socially. Open to women 18 and older, the group welcomes golfers of all levels, from beginners to seasoned players. New members are welcome to join at any time of the year.
A snapshot of the MCC Niners' experience includes:
WEEKLY ACTIITIES:
Play days are every Tuesday and Friday morning from November to May, with Tuesday focusing on the Stableford format and Friday featuring a variety of different games chosen by the Weekly Games Chair. Scrambles, aiming for the least putts, or playing best ball as partners are examples of Friday games. The variety keeps the game fresh and fun.
MONTHLY EVENTS:
A tournament is held most months, followed by a luncheon or dinner and often a general meeting for discussing league matters and socializing. These special events include:
- Welcome Back Opener
- Member/Member, Member/Guest, and Couples Tournaments
- Participation in Invitational Events with other Desert Niners' Clubs
- Niners' Championship Tournament
- Finale Events
SOCIAL OPPORTUNITIES:
Members often gather for informal lunches in the Members Lounge after play, fostering camaraderie and informal connections.
Joining the MCC Niners means becoming part of a supportive and enthusiastic group where you can strengthen your golf skills, learn about the rules and etiquette of golf, play various formats and tournaments, and enjoy social events.
Presidents Corner -
Greetings Niners!
As we tee off into the 2024-2025 golf season, I hope you've all had a good summer filled with golf and fun! The days are getting cooler, but the excitement for our busy season ahead is heating up. The Board and the committees have been hard at work planning a variety of activities to keep us all engaged and enjoying the game we love.
New Tees Alert! Last spring, the Board decided to introduce combo tees as an option for Niners to play alongside our traditional gold and green. The combo tees are a combination of gold and green tees that have been thoughtfully chosen for each course based on input from our members as well as the MCCLGA. Over the summer, Mike had the combo tees rated by the SCGA, and he has printed new score cards to include the new combo tees. At the start of the season each member designates which tees she wants to play, with the option to switch up to twice per season at the beginning of each month.
Dues Update: This year there is a modest increase of $5.00 for both full members and associate members due to a $5.00 increase in SCGA membership dues. Our affiliation with the SCGA provides us with GHIN services, as well as other member benefits.
Monthly Tournaments: We have a fantastic lineup of tournaments each month, thanks to the hard work of our tournament committees. Each event is designed to challenge and entertain, and we're always looking for more volunteers to join these committees. It's a great way to get involved, meet fellow members, and see what goes into organizing these events.
Upcoming Opener Tournament: Mark your calendars for November 15, our Opener Tournament! This special event honors Shirley Spork: a former MCC Niner, one of the founders of the LPGA, and a pioneer in women's golf. This year, we'll enjoy an afternoon tournament followed by hardy appetizers - a perfect opportunity to reconnect with friends, welcome new members, and "golf in the sunshine".
Stay Informed: Our website is your go-to source for everything Niners. From member profiles and the Niners' Handbook to player results and more, it's packed with valuable information. New members are paired with mentors to help navigate the site and learn about golf rules and expectations. Please don't hesitate to ask someone for assistance if you need it.
As always, please make sure to post your scores for rounds outside our regular Tuesday and Friday play dates, follow the rules, keep up the pace of play, and most importantly enjoy every moment on the course.
